Facelift (Rhytidectomy)
In time, gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life take their toll on our faces: deep creases appear beside the nose and mouth, the jawline slackens, and folds and fat deposits appear on the neck. Facelift corrects these aging stigmas by tightening skin and muscles and sculpting fat thereby restoring a fresher, youthful look.
In most facelifts, incisions are made from the temples down in front of the ears and back behind the earlobe to the lower scalp. The surgeon lifts the skin, sculpts fat, tightens muscle and trims excess skin. Dr. Sabry prefers the short scar facelift (MACS, minimal access cranial suspension lift) in most patients where the incision stops just below the earlobe and skin and muscle is moved and secured in cranial direction. Excess skin is trimmed. A thin surgical drainage tube is placed behind each earlobe and loose bandage is applied wrapped around the head.
During your initial consultation, Dr. Sabry will thoroughly examine you, define each component of your facial feature contributing to aging look and develop a plan that would best suit your needs and desires. Facelifts are usually outpatient procedures and may be performed under local anesthesia combined with sedation or under general anesthesia. Often a combination of procedures may be necessary i.e. browlift, blepharoplasty, fat grafting, and or necklift for more dramatic results.
You will be seen on the day after surgery when bandages and drains are removed and you may shower upon returning home. Stitches are removed within 4 to 7 days. Most patients many return to work within two weeks and may resume most physical activities in 4 weeks.
Temporary bruising and numbness are expected and may improve in few weeks. Complications are rare but may include hematoma, temporary or permanent nerve injury, infection, and reactions to anesthesia.
If you desire a facial rejuvenation, but are not ready to 'simply go under the knife,' a non-surgical facelift can dramatically enhance your features and restore a more refreshing and youthful look. This is usually performed with soft tissue fillers ie. Restylane®, Perlane®, Juvéderm™, Radiesse™ in combination with BOTOX®.
While BOTOX® is used to ease the wrinkles and furrows, soft tissue fillers are used restore volume in nasolabial folds, malar areas, and recesses of the chin and mandible. The results are almost immediate and gratifying. Two important aspects of non-surgical facelifts are that the effects are temporary and may last up to 4 to 6 months, and that this can be repeatedly performed until the patient is ready to have a permanent facelift.
